8 Mind-Blowing Movie Coincidences You Won't Believe Actually Happened
5. Cousins Were Unknowingly Cast As The First Two Bar Managers - The World's End
The World's End might not be the best movie in the Cornetto Trilogy, but it is the most thematically rich, and there's a fun coincidence that ties right into those themes.
As Gary, Andy and co embark on the Golden Mile, the first pub they stop at is, fittingly, The First Post. After that, the group move on to The Old Familiar, where things are, well, extremely familiar.
In a nod towards everything being franchised and all individuality being removed - which then ties into the larger plot of the film itself - the pub is exactly the same as the first one. But the coincidence here? As revealed by Wright on the director's commentary for the movie, the actors who play the managers of both pubs are actually cousins - called Teddy and Mark Kempner - and didn't know the other was in the movie until they met on set. It perfectly fits the themes and narrative of the movie, so much so it's almost like Edgar Wright, genius that he is, planned it all out.
