8 Modern Horrors Ruined By Their Monster Reveal
3. Super 8

J J Abrams and Steven Spielberg's Super 8 was a science fiction thriller in 2011 for teens and young adults alike with a heavy Stranger Things type style. The story followed a group of filmmaker kids in the summer of 1979 who wish to create their own zombie movie, whilst around them, kids start to go missing in their own town and there is an increase in strange goings on.
After an alien invasion is seemingly the cause of the attacks, although the audience are left in the dark to the true form of the monster, the town are forced to evacuate and seek shelter. There are a number of tense and scary scenes including quite a terrifying bus attack that causes the kids to become trapped in the confines of the vehicle whilst the alien feeds on the army troops inside.
And then we reach the alien's cave in the third act of the film with, yet again, a disappointing final computer generated product. The alien in question looks almost friendly and child like, making the audience question its deadly intentions throughout the movie leading up to this moment.
There is an innocence behind the creature that is explored as the film reaches a conclusion, but the scariness of the first two acts seems useless.
