After the success of James Wan's first instalment in his Conjuring franchise, The Conjuring 2 hit cinemas in 2016, following the 'true story' of the famous Enfield Case of 1977. Psychic mediums Ed and Lorraine Warren return again to a new location in an attempt to debunk and save the family living at the property who claim to be haunted by the spirit of an old man, targeting and at one point possessing one of the children, Janet.

The original narrative became notorious for its questionable truth and was labelled as a hoax at the time of the hauntings by media and professional spirit hunters alike. Wan takes the audience down a slightly different path as he explores a variety of ghosts and demons that reside in the home.

To make way for future movies in the franchise, Wan introduces the demon nun Valak, who is revealed to be the puppeteer of the old man Bill's spirit who mainly torments the house. Another spirit included is The Crooked Man, who has been confirmed to appear in his own solo movie soon. It is at this point in the movie that many fans lost interest, as CGI was used at its height for the creature.

Sticking with the original story, the Nun and The Crooked Man needed to have never appeared.
