8 Moments In Back To The Future That Could Have Been VERY Different

2. George And Eileen Mcfly

Back to the Future Marty Michael J Fox
Universal / Amblin

In the first movie, Marty's teen mother Lorraine McFly becomes obsessed with her son instead after her father hits the teen with his car, in a complete parallel timeline to how his parents originally met. This in turn, creates some awkward - to say the least - encounters in which his own mother falls in love with him, during which he attempts to make the future right again.

Up until the final draft and casting call, Lorraine was originally to be named Eileen, along with other name changes such as Marty's girlfriend Jennifer as Suzy Parker instead. George and Eileen McFly just did not sound right to the filmmakers and was therefore changed to Mary Ellen Gaines and later to Lorraine Baines.

Actress Lea Thompson who was cast as the iconic part played a multitude of ancestors throughout the franchise including middle-aged and teen Lorraine, Grandma McFly and Irish wild west Maggie McFly in Back To The Future 3. Her screen test audition included a variety of wigs to attempt to make the actress look different ages with Steven Speilberg operating the camera to ensure she could portray the many phases within the McFly family household.
