8 More Movies With Crazy Foreshadowing You Totally Missed

1. One Step Away - Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade

For most people, the best Indiana Jones movie is either Raiders Of The Lost Ark or The Last Crusade. It's hard to argue with either choice, but one area where Raiders beats out its second sequel is in the villains department.

The easily-hateable Belloq and the slimy Arnold Toht are far more memorable than The Last Crusade's Donovan and Elsa, the latter characters being somewhat overshadowed by Sean Connery's Henry Jones, who steals the movie.

Still, The Last Crusade's main baddies each get an unforgettable death, with Donovan crumbling into dust after drinking from the cup he wrongly thought was the Holy Grail, and Elsa falling to her death after Indy is unable to maintain a hold on her hand.

Weirdly, Elsa's death was set in stone from one of the movie's earliest scenes, in which Indy unintentionally predicts - and foreshadows for the audience - how she'll meet her maker.

In the scene where Indy and Donovan are discussing the Holy Grail, Indy can be seen reading from a manuscript, a clue that will lead him to the Grail. As Indy pores over the text, Donovan tells him that they're "only one step away", to which Indy replies "that's usually when the ground falls out from underneath your feet".

And this describes exactly what happens to Elsa.

Just as she's one step away from escaping with the Grail, the ground beneath her feet starts to crumble and split. She falls into one of the resulting cracks and is grabbed by Indy, who lets her go after he can't hold on any longer.

We all knew Indiana Jones was smart - but we didn't know he was a prophet.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
