6. The Bye Bye Man Fails To Deliver On Its Best Concept

The Bye Bye Man is undeniably one of the worst horror movies of the decade so far, but part of the reason why is because the premise isn't actually awful. Yeah, it's totally dumb, but having a monster who gains power the more people think about and say his name could have resulted in some pretty interesting scares.

Part of the fun with watching movies like The Bye Bye Man is seeing the mental state of these characters devolve. Seeing them give into hallucinations and try to parse out what's real and what isn't while they're manipulated by a sinister figure can be ridiculously unnerving. Unfortunately, you don't get that slow descent into madness with this film at all.

One minute they're completely fine and skeptical of there being anything supernatural going on, and the next minute acting like complete wrecks on the brink of sanity. The transition happens between scenes and is so abrupt you don't buy it, and it ends up feeling like a whole act of the movie has been cut out altogether.
