Resident Evil: The Final Chapter brought the unfathomably successful video-game-to-movie franchise to an end back in 2016. In keeping with the rest of the movies, it tied off fifteen years' worth of mythology in the most haphazard way possible, featuring a bunch of retcons and ridiculous plot twists that were made even more confusing by a new editing style that made even understanding where characters were standing difficult.

Though bad cutting plagued the whole movie, it was particularly pronounced in action sequences. Like with a lot of director's Paul W.S. Anderson's flaws, he clearly understands that quick-cutting can result in frantic set-pieces, but has no idea why. Consequently, action in The Final Chapter is choppy without reason, cutting from close-ups, to over-the-shoulder angles to reactions all within milliseconds of each other.

You can't follow a thing that's happening, which is a shame because some of the monster designs and big set-pieces are cool on paper, but absolutely s**t the bed in the final edit.
