3. Ant-Man Or Iron Man? - Ant-Man
While some fans and critics couldn't quite get over the fact that Edgar Wright didn't direct Ant-Man, I loved the movie. However, after a recent rewatch and that humorous Honest Trailer for Marvel's finale Phase 3 release, it's hard to deny that there are some blatant similarities between the general structure of this movie and Iron Man, and that annoyingly goes some way in what should be one of its best scenes! I'm obviously referring to the moment when Hope Van Dyne sees The Wasp costume for the first time and declares that it's about damn time she gets the chance to suit up. On its own, this works perfectly fine, but when you think back to Rhodey saying near enough the exact same thing back in Iron Man ("Next time, baby..."), the parallel between these two scenes puts it in something of a different light. Don't get me wrong, it doesn't spoil Ant-Man, and the scene still works in a way, but once you make the connection, it's kind of tough to forget about it and watch this scene without the whole thing coming off as a bit awkward and off putting. It ends up feeling a bit like a cliché ultimately, and I for one now find it a little difficult to watch this once great scene without rolling my eyes at this new comic book movie trope!
