J.J. Abrams, fondly known for Lost, Fringe and Star Trek, produced a stunning yet unsettling film in partnership with Matt Reeves (Let Me In) in 2008. Prior to its release, the film was shrouded with mystery and awe, as fans and critics tirelessly theorized about the nature and story of the plot. Cloverfield was a surprise. The film depicted six young friends who were at a party, discovered that New York was being attacked by a gigantic monster that same night. The film€™s shaky camera was used to effect by accounting the transpiring events while adding anxiety and a sense of realism. The monster is a more complex threat in addition to its beautiful and thoughtful design which showed unrequited love and affection during its design process. This is because the creature sheds parasite like creatures similar to that with a dog ridden with fleas, entirely for the clever purpose of posing another threat for humans. During the scene when the characters take refuge in the subway, they decide to travel through the darkened tunnel in order to rescue a woman who is severely injured. Much to their own despise, they encounter a flock of rats scurrying away, frightened by something. Unsettling sounds being to drown the silence in the subway as the protagonists encounter the grotesque parasite creatures and are violently attacked. One woman is bitten nastily and her health beings to deteriorate alarmingly until blood streams freely from her eyes, and develops a nose-bleed. This scene is one of the most unsettling in recent films. The woman later then screams in agony as her friends watch her get taken behind a protective screen, where her chest expands rapidly and her torso tears open in a shower of blood. Certainly, not for the faint-hearted.
