3. The Human Centipede: First Sequence (2009)
The controversial horror film that gained internet attention and exposure at its time of release has been heavily criticised for its visually disgusting and nauseating imagery and concept. Nevertheless, some critics have been drawn more favourably towards it by commenting on its resemblance to that of being a modern-day Frankenstein. The vile plot focuses upon a scientists perverted obsession, who has twisted fantasies about making new creatures by sewing people together. He captures and keeps hostage three unfortunate victims to surgically connect them mouth-to-anus, in order for them to share a single digestive system and thus resemble a centipede-like creation. The horror of their predicament for viewers, who can manage to stomach such material, is explicit and visually disturbing, particularly with despicable scenes involving bodily functions. Despite this, such un-nerving horror and gore does appeal to a considerably large market, popularised by such films as Hostel and Saw. For its controversial and warped nature and poor reception, director Tom Six has received such threatening criticism for his work. His sequel in 2011, The Human Centipede 2: Full Sequence was originally banned by the BBFC because of its revolting and sexually-explicit content, although it was released with a granted 18 certificate after cuts were made. Curiosity will entice you to watch this film. But be warned if you desire to view both films. Dont watch alone.
