A remake of the 1950s The Thing from Another World, The Thing by the iconic master of horror, John Carpenter, indulges into the fear and paranoia of being isolated amongst friends alone with a relentless and desperate extraterrestrial. Significantly improved and scarier than the 1950s original, the film has been renowned for its repulsive and excessive gory elements. There are countless examples to justify this films place on the list. Notably, the scene into the first act, when the creature is disguised as an Alaskan malamute is taken into the outpost€™s kennels amongst the other sled dogs, begins to metamorphose and attacks them and the results are disturbingly horrific. Most significantly, a scene that both captures the true horror of the creature and is viewed back on fondly by fans and audiences in the scene when the character Norris appears to have a heart attack. When attempting to revive Norris by defibrillation, he reveals to be an imitation as his torso gapes open, revealing razor-sharp teeth which closes and bites off a mans arms thus killing him. At the time of release, the effects were incomparable and praised. However, to the modern day viewer the effects are outdated and even give rise to laughter. The films sense of fulfilling dread and paranoia will course through the viewers veins, both intoxicatingly and enthrallingly.
