1. The Fly (1986)
Be afraid. Be very afraid. David Cronenbergs films have been the pinnacle for exploring the unvanquishable horrors of body horror transformations. His 1986 film, The Fly, also a remake of a 1950s film, surpasses it in every way with its execution, style and the way it radiates uncontrollably with unimaginable horror and repulsiveness. A renowned scientist begins to transform into a grotesque man/fly hybrid after a teleportation experiment goes terribly wrong. Jeff Goldblum (Jurassic Park) starring as the scientist Seth Brundle, begins to slowly deteriorate with losing various body parts much to our horror, while starting to lose humanistic characteristics in replacement for sprouting hairs on his face and back. Each day Brundle is becoming less human in appearance and in essence. In addition to these dramatic visual changes, he begins to adapt and develop fly like characteristics such as vomiting digestive enzymes on food in order to eat and crawling on walls. Nauseating stuff. This is one of the most quintessential films of the 80s, a necessary film to be digested by horror and science fictions fans.
