8 Most Hotly Anticipated 2016 Films (And Why They'll Be Disappointing)

3. Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice

What It Is: Oh, it's nothing much €“ just the big budget on-screen pairing that comic book fans have dreamt about since the beginning of the superhero film craze. Dawn Of Justice sees Batman and Superman duke it out it out as the world struggles to understand the kind of hero it desperately needs. Why It'll Be Disappointing: You can't teach an old dog new tricks. Time and time again, Zack Snyder his proved himself to be all style and no substance. 300, Sucker Punch, Man Of Steel...it's just a whole bunch of meaningless stuff happening up on-screen. But that isn't the disappointing part. After all, this is Batman V Superman...a concept so inherently fascinating that it would surely be incredibly difficult to mess it up. And for a while, it seemed like Snyder hadn't. The first few trailers for the film were more reserved than Snyder's usual work, with more of a genuine lingering tension and dark brooding atmosphere. Hell, the film appeared to be conscious of one of Man Of Steel's most heavily criticized aspects €“ Superman's rampant destruction of Metropolis €“ showing us the stunned reaction of Ben Affleck's Bruce Wayne. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yViIi3gie2c But then it all went wrong. A three-minute, full-length trailer was dropped, and all pretence of a different kind of film went straight out the window. Explosions, yet again Superman's utter destruction of Metropolis and not only that, but the entire premise of the film €“ that Batman goes up against Superman €“ is spoiled by the fact we see them team up against one of Michael Bay's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (sorry, Doomsday). Turns out it was just another Snyder film all along.
