8 Movie Characters That Hollywood Has F*cked Up Twice
5. Anakin Skywalker - Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace/Star Wars: Episode II - Attack Of The Clones
The Character: Darth Vader, one of the most iconic villains to have ever graced the silver screen, never needed a backstory. George Lucas gave us one anyway, and with the arrival of his - for the most part - ill-judged prequel trilogy, the writer/director somehow managed to ruin Anakin Skywalker at two separate points in his life. Lucas' decision to cast two very, very inappropriate actors in the role did not fare well. Fans just couldn't get over it. The First Time: What did people expect from Star Wars: Episode I and its explorations of young Anakin Skywalker? Probably not Jake Lloyd, that kid from Jingle all the Way, cast in the role of the galaxy's most ruthless bad guy. It's not really Lloyd's fault that he wound up being a terrible Anakin, though; Lucas should have thought long and hard before casting such an irksome little twerp in such an iconic role. This is podracing? This is really awful. The Second Time: At the point where Lucas might've redeemed himself for Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones, when the role of Anakin required an older actor who was not Jake Lloyd, he opted for a guy named Hayden Christensen. Christensen's casting is often hailed as the worst casting decision of all-time; he was flat, lifeless and terrible for the sum of two Star Wars movies. Fans of the franchise were thus forced to come to terms with the fact that a whiny dork ends up being Darth Vader. All these years later, it still stings.
