8 Movie Franchises That Continued Long After Their “Final” Chapter

The Friday The 13th series pulled this nonsense not once, but twice!

Paramount originally intended to end it all with part four, because despite the series being a low cost, high return affair for the studio, they were embarrassed by it. They didn’t want to be seen making sleazy B-movie gorefests, so The Final Chapter ended with Jason getting hacked to bits.

Then they saw the insane profit margin on it, and immediately decided to crank another sequel out with A New Beginning, which came out a mere eleven months later. The series continued with Paramount until part eight, where Jason went to Manhattan (aka Vancouver).

When New Line acquired the rights they made the seemingly bold decision to end the series with part nine, titled Jason Goes To Hell: The Final Friday. Of course, this wasn’t really the plan, since they wanted to pair him with Freddy for a Versus movie.

This took ages to get going, so they ended up making another movie in the meantime where they sent him to space; because that worked so well for Pinhead, Critters, Leprechaun...
