8 Movie Franchises That Continued Long After Their “Final” Chapter

3. Omen III: The Final Conflict

At one point the producer behind The Omen series considered telling the story of Damien Thorn over seven movies, but he sensibly decided to round it off to a trilogy. The progression made sense; he’s a boy in the original, he discovers his true identity when he’s a teen in the sequel, and in The Final Conflict he’s fully grown and ready to unleash literal Hell.

That’s a clear beginning, middle and end (which in no way resembles the story of Christ, no sir) and it was wise to wrap it up with part three; Damien is quite dead at the end, for one thing.

Sadly though they dusted off the series once more in 1991 for a TV movie titled The Omen IV: The Awakening. This belated entry follows Damien’s evil daughter while she does some mildly evil stuff, none of which is terribly interesting or creative.

In 2006 there was a terrible Omen remake – creatively timed to coincide with the date 06/06/06 – and in 2016 there came a short-lived and poorly received show called Damien. It was a sequel to the original movie only and followed an adult Damien getting up to more satanic hi-jinks.
