8 Movie Franchises That Desperately Need Saving (And How To Save Them)

7. Give Us A Main Protagonist We Can Root For - Star Wars

Obi Wan lie Enough bad stuff has been written about the Star Wars prequel movies already - I don't need to reiterate the common feelings that most fans felt watching them, but we all know they didn't meet expectations, and most people consider them to be the slime of humanity. We all know that a new trilogy is on the way, of course, so what essential ingredient was missing in the prequels that must be included to ensure Disney don't repeat the mistakes of the past all over again? A main protagonist. A new, central protagonist who we can follow on a kind of hero's journey - you know, the way we did with Luke Skywalker back in 1977. As with Luke, it would make sense to give us a main character who hadn't yet been exposed to the wider world, so we can experience all the amazing things he or she does throughout the trilogy on similar terms. The prequels felt unfocused and messy because nobody was leading things, but Star Wars needs to ensure a new direction for the seventh installment: we need that central character in place.
