8 Movie Plot Holes You Didn't Realise The Movie Actually Solved

2. Why Did The T-1000 Keep Sarah Alive? - Terminator 2: Judgment Day

The "Plot Hole": Why does the T-1000 (Robert Patrick) leave Sarah (Linda Hamilton) alive in the movie's finale when he could just kill her and still imitate her behaviour? After all, he did the same thing to John's (Edward Furlong) foster mother (Jenette Goldstein) in the first act of the movie.

Why It Actually Isn't: The answer to this is quite blatantly spelled out in the Special Edition of the film, where it's revealed that being frozen in liquid nitrogen, shot into pieces and then reforming has caused the T-1000 to malfunction, sticking to objects and failing to maintain its chameleon-like abilities.

As such, without the guarantee that it would be able to successfully imitate Sarah, it actually made total sense for the T-1000 to keep Sarah alive to call out to John.

After all, when the T-1000 tried to pull this trick in a moment of desperation at the very end of the film, John noticed its malfunctioning feet bleeding into the floor, which allowed him to discern which Sarah was the real one.
