8 Movie Sequels That Cost LESS Than The Original (But Were Better)
3. Star Trek II: The Wrath Of Khan (1982)
To date, The Wrath of Khan is the greatest of all Star Trek movies. Whilst Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979) was mostly okay, if a little slow and over-reliant on special effects rather than character, it was with The Wrath of Khan that the franchise reached its thus far unbeatable peak.
The Motion Picture cost a whopping 44 million to make, which is unbelievable when you consider the film's clear lack of action and questionable effects.
Wrath of Khan only cost 12 million in comparison, and brought back everything that made the series so good. There was of course still a lot of special effects, but amongst the added action and more effective story, there was also more character and emotion than ever - there was more to root for, more to connect with.
Watching Spock (Leonard Nimoy) and Kirk (William Shatner) say their tragic goodbye and witnessing every scene with titular villain Khan (Ricardo Montalban) would be enough to make Wrath of Khan suprerior to the original, but there is so much more to it than that, from the added emotion, the believable character motivations and the fun script.
It's definitely logical to say Wrath of Khan is the best there is.
