8 Movie Sequels You Didn't Know Were Coming In 2019

The original Now You See Me was a surprise hit, but its sequel, Now You See Me 2, was a gross disappointment.

Where the first was enjoyable, stylish and sumptuously-produced, the second was repetitive, convoluted and overly self-indulgent, and while the magic tricks were still there, they were dragged out to the point where all the reveals raised nothing more than disinterested grunts from the audience.

The second made slightly less than the first, too, so the fact that another sequel is on the way is a little bit surprising.

What isn't surprising is that the third instalment is reportedly chasing some big, big names to star in it, and after featuring the likes of Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, Mark Ruffalo and Jesse Eisenberg, is there anyone this franchise can't get?

Rumours are swirling that Benedict Cumberbatch is being eyed for a role in the film, the nature of which is unknown. Take that with a huge pinch of salt for now as no official sources have yet commented on the matter, but it wouldn't be completely out of leftfield considering the acting talent that's filled the series thus far.

Elsewhere, the four central stars are all expected to return, and Now You See Me 2 director John M. Chu is currently attached to direct.

The script is in the works, and while we don't yet have any story details, expect the film to revolve around a gang of magicians who perform incredible feats of magic with the ultimate aim of taking down a corrupt, wealthy individual. Why? Because that's what the first two were about, that's why.
