8 Movie Trailers That Contained The Final Shot Of The Film
1. Cast Away
Cast Away's trailer doesn't just reveal the final shot - it spoils the entire movie, giving away all its important beats and ruining it for anyone who hasn't seen it yet.
The film is about Chuck Noland - played by Tom Hanks - a FedEx worker who survives a plane crash in the Pacific Ocean, resulting in him being washed up on an island all by himself. After many years, Chuck tries to escape on a raft, where a passing cargo ship picks him up and takes him back to civilization. Here, he finds that he's long been assumed dead, and his former girlfriend has married another man.
The movie ends with Chuck delivering an unopened FedEx package to a house in Texas. Chuck then stands in the middle of a crossroads as the owner of the package drives off into the distance.
Minus the detail about the delivery of the package, every single one of those plot points is revealed in the trailer, including the final shot of Chuck. We see Chuck return to civilization, and we see him reunite with - and be forced to move on from - his ex-partner. It's essentially a two-minute version of the film.
Cast Away is still a great movie, but this is just egregious, and it's hard to believe that no-one involved thought they were spoiling it just a little too much.
