8 Movie Villains Whose Logic Makes No Sense
3. Die Hard With A Vengeance - Peter Toys With His Brother's Killer On The Same Day As A Heist
Alright, no villain will ever compete with Alan Rickman's Hans Gruber, but a good argument could be made in close second for his older, slightly less charming, but equally mischievous brother, Peter "Simon" Gruber (Jeremy Irons).
Let's preface this by saying that causing havoc in New York City to distract the NYPD while you rob the Federal Reserve of $140 Billion. Genius! That's a home-run right there. Anyone would be proud to be part of his crew. Sign me up if you've got a spot!
What's weird though, is that on the same day of this genius heist, Simon also sets up an elaborate treasure hunt for John McClane to follow - torturing and toying with the New York cop out of revenge for dropping Hans off the Nakatomi building.
While distracting the one man who could have stopped you sounds like a logical choice to make, I want to clarify here that McClane wasn't on Simon's tail at the beginning of the film. McClane was hungover, and had a day-off. He was in no state to get off the couch and stop Simon.
"Simon Says" that the robbers would have gotten away had their leader not spent half his time playing puzzle games. Even Simon's henchman Targo (Nick Wyman) can't understand why they don't just kill McClane, and he's a man with an unreasonably awful dress-sense.
