8 Movie Villains Whose Logic Makes No Sense
2. Army Of The Dead - Martin Has A Secret Las Vegas Agenda
First - let's give a round of applause to Zack Snyder! A filmmaker who did the impossible by making zombie movies fun again. Between the ramshackle violence, the swashbuckling shootouts and the gut-wrenching gore, Army of the Dead is a delightful film that tickles a very special part of the brain that enjoys exaggerated action and horror.
If there is one thing that doesn't sit right with the film it's certain key elements within the plot. The main one being the real reason Martin (Garret Dillahunt) is accompanying the gang of zombie slayers. Initially sold as an attempt to steal $200 million of abandoned cash from a derelict casino, it is quickly revealed that Martin has been actually sent to retrieve the head of the zombie queen - for military experimental profit reasons?
Outside of the fact that once Martin severs the head of the zombie queen, he proceeds to betray the other members of the team, the question that kept spinning through my skull was - why didn't Martin or his employer Bly Tanaka (Hiroyuki Sanada) let the rest in on this plan from the start?
You get the impression that Tanaka is a wealthy man who would have paid Dave Bautista and his crew a sizeable salary to retrieve the head anyway, so why be all clandestine? The heroes of the film (except for one) are driven exclusively by money, and had Tanaka or Martin dipped their hands in their pockets just once, maybe they would have all gotten out much sooner and in more pieces?
