8 Movies That Completely Ignored Important Plot Points

1. Beauty And The Beast - The Other Castle Residents

Spider-Man 3
Disney

The Disney classic Beauty and the Beast desperately wants to give you a happy ending, but if you dig a little deeper, the final few moments of the film actually may have yielded an unspeakable horror.

So the gist is that the castle's inhabitants have been transformed into cups, candlesticks, and all manner of china and household objects. To reverse this curse (and become a prince again), the titular Beast must find someone to love who loves him in return, something he does by the end of the film.

It's all very soppy and cheesy in that Disney sort of way, with swelling music and shots of characters like Cogsworth and Chip turning back into humans. But here, the film only focuses on a handful of main characters, and outright ignores the hundreds of other enchanted objects present inside the castle.

What happened to all the sentient plates, suits of armour, cups, spoons, champagne bottles, candles, teapots, cake platters and other objects we saw throughout the film? Did they just vanish? Did all the forks turn back into humans inside their drawers, only to be crushed instantly? We do see a couple of dozen of what are presumably castle residents stood by the dancefloor as the film closes out, but that's not nearly enough to match all the enchanted objects we saw.

There's a common argument that an object with no eyes or lips isn't human, which would mostly solve this problem. But this doesn't hold water; the metal, faceless beer goblets can clearly be seen singing during Be Our Guest (along with other background voices that must come from other bits of china and cutlery) and the forks even have eyes and mouths:

So the next time you watch Beauty and the Beast, spare a thought for all those people who died instantly when they turned back into a human while trapped in a small cupboard. You're welcome.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
