8 Movies That Fooled Us Twice
1. Scream
Whilst a lot of slasher films are known for their jump-scares and brutal violence, what made Scream so great was that it was also a sort of murder mystery. Compared to the likes of Jason and Freddy, Ghostface was no monster in the traditional sense and was just a twisted individual in a mask. Identifying the killer was key to stopping them.
Throughout the movie, Sidney Prescott finds herself embroiled in the murder-spree. Her boyfriend Billy is arrested as a suspect but is later released. Later on, after the pair have had sex, they are confronted by Ghostface and narrowly survive.
In its compound of twists, Sidney is horrified to discover that the identity of the killer and the man behind the mask that has been haunting her is in fact Billy. Or one of the men anyway, as Billy introduces his accomplice Stu - explaining how he and Ghostface were sometimes in the same place, at the same time. They've been toying with Sidney since the beginning.
Sidney attempts her escape and, in one final twist, is saved by her friends Gale and Randy, both of which the movie previously looks to have killed off via car accident and gunshot wound. Outnumbered, Billy and Stu suffer for their crimes and Sidney and friends live to see another day.
