8 Movies That Were Wiped Out Of Continuity By Their Sequels

8. Prometheus Completely Ignores The Alien Vs. Predator Movies

When Prometheus came out there was a lot of talk about whether it was really an Alien prequel or not. It certainly started out as one, but rewrites by Damon Lindelof turned it into more of a standalone entry. But one concrete link is the character of Peter Weyland, played by Guy Pearce in truly terrible old age make-up. He is the founder of Weyland Corp, which would later become the evil Weyland-Yutani Corporation that causes so much trouble for Ripley down the road. But his presence directly contradicts Alien Vs. Predator, where Lance Henriksen plays Charles Wayland, the founder of Weyland Industries. This makes some sense as Henriksen played Bishop in Aliens and Alien 3, an android who was modelled after Weyland as a tribute. Ridley Scott didn€™t care about this detail though. In an interview Damon Lindolof explained that he brought this continuity issue to the director: "I said to him,'You know, Weyland was a character in one of those Alien Vs Predator movies.€™ He just sort of looked at me like I had just slapped him in the face. That was the beginning, middle and end of all Alien Vs Predator references in our story process." And with that move the Alien Vs. Predator movies were ignored. Nobody seemed that upset about this decision - most people ignore those movies anyway.
