8 Movies That Were Wiped Out Of Continuity By Their Sequels

2. X-Men: Days Of Future Past Wipes The Events of The Last Stand and Origins: Wolverine Out Of Existence

Bryan Singer returned to direct X-Men: Days Of Future Past in 2014 after a decade long absence. He'd left The Last Stand to direct Superman Returns, and replacement Brett Ratner made some unpopular choices on the eventual film. This included jamming too many new characters and plotlines into the slender runtime, and killing off a bunch of beloved characters like Jean Grey and Cyclops. In the years between The Last Stand and Days Of Future Past, the series timeline only got more knotted, with different versions of the same character popping up and other continuity inconsistencies; Bolivar Trask is seen in present day as a tall black man and in the past as a white midget; in Origins: Wolverine Professor X is seen around walking just fine, while prequel First Class reveals he€™d been crippled as a young man. That's just for starters, and trying to make sense of all these contradictions is the road to insanity. So Singer decided to use the time bending plot of Days Of Future Past to take a broom to this mess and right some wrongs. The ending of the film returns to the present day timeline, revealing that Jean Grey and Cyclops are alive and well and also that the events of X-Men Origins has been wiped out. Few would argue with this - the movies it erases are the least popular and it will allow the series to streamline its continuity in future films.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
