8 Movies The Simpsons (Probably) Spoiled For You

6. Thelma And Louise

Marge On The Lam is one of the most overt parody episodes in the early years of The Simpsons, taking the plot and key visual cues directly from Ridley Scott's Thelma And Louise (which was then an oddly recent film). And while it's twisted a little, with Marge stopping Ruth before Homer and Wiggum fly off anyway, we do get the famous cliff edge ending.

What's so ruinous here though is the visual design. Marge On The Lam feels indelibly unique from other episodes on a style level, so it's immediately apparent, even if you haven't seen the movie, that it's riffing on something. And when you get round to checking out the film, well, you'll probably be able to put two and two together.

Ironically, this is a film that's more likely to spoil now than it was on release; then Thelma And Louise was firmly in the public consciousness, whereas now it's more cult and primed for rediscovery.
