3. Planet Of The Apes
To be fair to The Simpsons, that the Planet of the Apes is really Earth is something so ingrained in the popular consciousness that it's gleefully paraded on DVD re-releases. Heck, an entire prequel enterprise has come out of the premise. But the show sure sealed its widely known fate.
You of course have Stop The Planet Of The Apes, I Want To Get Off!, the best bit of music in all of The Simpsons, which re-angles Taylor's (Troy McClure) shock discovery as finally being made a monkey of. It's making the assumption you know the film - Dr Zaius doesn't really work otherwise - but it's such an oddly striking recreation that it's spoiled otherwise.
But there's more to it than just that. In Deep Space Homer, Homer freaks out when he finally figures out the movie's twist - in the future ending of Rosebud the world has again been taken over by apes, and later seasons have only layered on the references more.
