Dances With Wolves, which brought the actor a well-needed boost in glory and critical praise. But what would all that be without a nasty rumour inching its way into the mix? That's exactly what happened, of course, when it suddenly emerged that Costner's former friend (the two have since fallen out) had actually directed a large chunk of the movie. So what gives? Well, it
was just a rumour supposedly, with the press running away with the idea of Kevin Reynolds having directed the whole of
Dances With Wolves. But there's some truth in the notion, because Reynolds did in fact direct some parts of the movie, and arguably its most impressive and memorable sequence, too - that of the buffalo hunt. There were a couple of others, apparently, but - of course - not enough to likely warrant a co-directing credit.
