8 New Awards Categories That Would Make The Oscars Better
2. Best Achievement In Stunt Co-Ordination
Why is this still not a thing yet?
Right now it's easier to just CGI a fight sequence or put actors in grey jumpsuits in a green room. But for the effort Tom Cruise puts into Mission Impossible films or the gut-wrenching physicality the cast of The Raid put into one sequence, a nod to the old-school methods still used by films has to be addressed.
The rigorous physical training actors endure to perform a fight scene, or the time taken to ensure a car crash is shot in the most spectacular and realistic way, while it is appreciated from a directing point-of-view, it's not viewed by the Academy as a worthy accolade.
The very definition of performing in a safe and impressive manner is shunned because at the end no tears are shed (except for possibly Tom Cruise' foot). It's time the Academy started appreciating the impressive and jaw-dropping stunts real or stand-in actors endure just to make a scene work.
Otherwise we might start to lose that effort forever.
