8 Plot Threads To Continue In Captain Marvel 2
2. Carol’s Relationship With Maria
Maria is heavily involved in the second half of the movie, but her and Carol’s story is far from over. Even without including the possibility of Monica becoming Ms Marvel, there’s so much more that can be done between this pair.
Speaking of Monica, there’s no love interest on the scene for Maria, nor for Carol; not on Earth or anywhere else for that matter. However, a lot of audience members feel like there might have been a love interest on screen after all: each other.
Two single women, clearly very close, with Carol incredibly involved in Monica’s daughter’s life; it wouldn’t be a huge surprise to find out they were lovers. Their connection was teased in the first movie, but the second one could bring greater clarity.
Tessa Thompson, herself bisexual in real life, expressed disappointment that canonically lesbian Valkyrie was denied a love interest in Thor: Ragnarok, but the MCU is getting more and more progressive. Female leads, POC casts... it’s only a matter of time before there’s an openly queer character.
Whether it’s Valkyrie, a debut for Moondragon or if Danvers and Rambeau get together remains to be seen.
