8 Possible Futures For The Spider-Man Movie Franchise

7. Andrew Garfield€™s Peter Parker Is Loaned To The Avengers

This is the suggestion that's really got people talking. Spider-Man has been prevented from appearing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe thanks to those pesky rights, but there's been suggestions that Sony may relent and loan the character to Marvel (for a fee and most likely a share of the massive profits it would lead to). This would most probably result in the web-crawler appearing in Avengers 3 to fight Thanos or a realisation of Civil War in Avengers 4, either of which we'd love to see. And as it'd be a character loan, rather than relinquishing of the rights, expect that Spidey to be the Andrew Garfield flavour. Spider-Man producer Avi Arad has stated previously that this would never happen and you can understand logistically why; how do you divvy up the box office takings, working out the appeal of different characters? You can imagine Sony demanding their hero gets the spotlight. But with Peter Parker in a rut, it's a nice way to make some money. For this to work Sony would need to keep their world moving forward - otherwise using Garfield is a pretty defunct idea. Of course, having him appear alongside Tony Stark and Steve Rogers would have the effect of boosting Amazing's ongoing appeal - even though it's a different studio, his films would feel more important, meaning this action could save the stand-alone franchise. The biggest problem we have with this is continuity. Marvel have prided themselves in this, but bring in Garfield would immediately invalidate it; how could Parker have been living in a New York ravaged by Chitauri and not have it have an impact?
