8 Possible Futures For The Spider-Man Movie Franchise

5. The Sinister Six Reboots The Character

Drew Goddard's The Sinister Six is, as discussed earlier, the next planned movie in The Amazing Spider-Man continuity and the only one into pre-production in any meaningful way. Thus it serves as a poster-boy for how Sony are going to deal with their Webiverse (coining that term now) and their general direction. Which makes the rumours that there's going to be a rejig in the status quo, with a new actor cast as Spider-Man, very interesting indeed. Ignoring Garfield's contract (he'd probably be bought out in this eventuality) there's two ways this could go down. It could be a simple re-cast, with whoever is brought in playing the same iteration of the character, essentially balancing audience apathy with Amazing and the effort that's been put into setting up the world. Given that Devin Faraci of Badass Digest, from whom most of the rumours have been sparked, suggested the possible recast would be part of a "soft reboot" this is probably where this train of thought would lead. The other option is both more drastic and confusing; this is another version of Peter Parker. A recast could mark a new take on Spider-Man, using the increasing awareness of The Sinister Six as a jumping board away from the mess we've been given thus far. This sounds ridiculous, but why would Sony be considering getting rid of Garfield otherwise; there may be some tarnishing by association, but he's one of the best things about the reboot. Given Garfield's contract we weren't certain Spidey would appeal in the film at all, but disregarding his two remaining films in favour of a newcomer doesn't make much sense. Take this one with a pinch of salt.
