8 Post-Credits Scenes Marvel Didn’t Have The Balls To Shoot
2. Tony's Deep Space Armour
So, it turns out the events of Iron Man 3 had already happened, and what weve just spent two hours watching was Tony Starks recollection, as told in true patient-therapist couch-lying fashion to Bruce Banner.
That stinger was another attempt at a gag ending by Marvel, but possibly their weakest yet. However, the reason may have something to do with the fact that it wasnt the one they initially planned to go with. Mark Ruffalo himself confirmed this, telling ScreenCrush:
They were about to wrap the movie and I saw Robert at the Academy Awards and he had this idea. Marvel had had an idea but then they scrapped it.
Although nothing official has been said as to exactly what the scene was, it was hotly rumoured at the time that itd be a tie-in to Guardians of the Galaxy. More specifically, that itd feature the Deep Space Armour, which appeared as a Funko Pop toy but was not seen in the movie, would be donned by Stark in the post-credits sting.
This would see him, or S.H.I.E.L.D., receiving a distress call from outer-space, and Stark putting on the suit to fly out there and meet the Guardians. Ultimately it never happened, and may never have existed as an idea at all. Given the way Guardians panned out its unlikely theyd have made a way to fit it in, but the idea of it just sounds really awesome, and is hopefully something theyll revisit in some form later down the line.
