8 Promising Things Ben Affleck Will Bring To A Batman Film
4. Empathetic Villains
While Affleck has a lot of skills as a writer and director, one of his greatest strengths seems to be his ability to craft well-rounded antagonists. Characters like Remy in Gone Baby Gone and Jem in The Town are compelling not just in their villainous acts but in their understandable motivations and conflicted morality.
Affleck has already spoken about including a humongous number of villains in the film and Batman has arguably the most iconic rogues gallery in all of comics. As such, it would seem like his sensibilities towards handling villains make him the ideal filmmaker for adapting such characters.
In particular, there are a few Bat-villains who could benefit from his deft touch. Classic foes like Clayface and Mr. Freeze, who might look laughable at first, actually boast very rich backstories and compelling personas.
They, like many others, have sympathetic origins and are villains by circumstance. Hopefully, Affleck will be the one to give some of these more out-there characters their proper due on screen.
