8 Promising Things Ben Affleck Will Bring To A Batman Film
2. Grounded Action
A great many viewers would argue that the single best scene in Batman V Superman was Batman’s brutal Arkham-style takedown of KGBeast and his henchman in the warehouse. It wasn’t bogged down by too many special effects and felt like a visceral experience, unlike most of the rest of the film.
The solo Batman film should not be weighted down with a bunch of unbelievable, impractical fights. Instead, the action needs to resemble scenes like that one.
Ben Affleck isn’t exactly known for his action sequences as a director, but when he does employ them they are always well-executed. Think of the opening escape from the embassy in Argo or the car chase after the heist in The Town as perfect examples of his dynamic use of cinematography and editing to craft exciting, yet realistic takes on big set pieces.
Having compelling action scenes are a requirement for a big superhero film, but there’s a right way to do them. The groundwork has already been set for Affleck, and if he does what we know him to be capable of doing, then Batman’s action could be the DCEU’s best so far.
