8 R-Rated Comic Book Movies That Definitely Shouldn't Follow Deadpool
5. Gambit
With Deadpool proving to be such a massive success, you can bet your sweet butt that Fox are now thinking hard about which of their other movies can follow in the Merc with the Mouth's footsteps. After losing a director and very nearly its main star, Gambit is unlikely to be released in 2016, and the extra time the studio now has to develop it could very well see the Channing Tatum led spinoff undergo a transformation into being R-Rated. On the one hand, you might think that would work in its favour, especially as it opens the door to exploring the darker side of the Thieves Guild and the underbelly of New Orleans. However, that's all material which could very easily still be touched on in a PG-13 blockbuster, and when your lead is a guy in a trenchcoat who throws exploding playing cards, a bigger budget to make things feel epic is an absolute necessity. Deadpool has the advantage of looking like a superhero, but Gambit is a pretty generic dude in all honesty. Going for an R-Rating and making this a much smaller movie would likely result in it being a moderate hit at best (think John Wick), and that's not what Fox need if they're really hoping Tatum will be their new Hugh Jackman and a big box office draw in the X-Men Universe. For Gambit, an R would be an unnecessary addition.
