8 R-Rated Comic Book Movies That Definitely Shouldn't Follow Deadpool
4. The Ultimates
Despite all the talk of superhero move fatigue, the genre is currently showing no signs of slowing down. However, there will inevitably come a day when movie studios really need to shake things up because audiences have grown too used to seeing superheroes battling bad guys (and each other for that matter), and one way to achieve that with The Avengers franchise for example would be for it to basically become The Ultimates. A more realistic take on the superhero team, the series makes for a great read, but it would make for one depressing movie. The Hulk is basically a wannabe rapist, Giant-Man is a wife beating psychopath, brother and sister Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch have a sexual relationship, and the team is frequently deployed in the Middle East. Those are some very adult issues then, but should they be explored on the big screen? Honestly, no. As great as it was to read a modern reinvention of The Avengers, taking Earth's Mightiest Heroes in this direction and putting them in what is really an R-Rated setting would rob the team of what makes them so much fun to watch. As it turns out, the realistic versions of these characters aren't that likeable, and there are loads of things Disney could do with the PG-13 team before adapting their Ultimate counterparts.
