8 R-Rated Comic Book Movies That Definitely Shouldn't Follow Deadpool
3. Wolverine 3
Ever since Deadpool was released, there's been a lot of talk about Hugh Jackman's final Wolverine movie being R-Rated. A pamphlet handed out at this year's Toy Fair seemingly confirmed that, while Den of Geek recently also ran a report stating that director James Mangold wants an R in order to adapt the Old Man Logan storyline. The problem here is that if all of that is accurate, it's a completely pointless decision. Throughout Wolverine's multiple appearances, portraying his violent actions has never been a problem, and we even got to see him tell Professor X and Magneto to go and f*ck themselves at one point! Giving his final adventure that R-Rating would be a sign that we're getting gratuitous violence for the sake of it, and as bloody as the Old Man Logan storyline is, much of the key moments in that could work in a PG-13 adaptation. Taking a character who has been a huge part of the family friendly X-Men movies and two PG-13 solo outings and suddenly throwing him into an R-Rated world is a baffling choice, and one which is likely to alienate a large portion of Wolverine's fanbase. Neither of his movies have exactly set the box office on fire, and despite what Fox may think after Deadpool, that R-Rating isn't a magic cure all and just won't work for Wolverine.
