8 R-Rated Comic Book Movies That Definitely Shouldn't Follow Deadpool

2. Crossed

Depending on how many comic books you read outside of the traditional Marvel and DC titles, there's a good chance that you won't have heard of Crossed. Written by Garth Ennis, the long running series is great in a lot of ways, but it's no wonder that a big screen adaptation has never really taken off, and it's probably for the best that it never does. Why? Well, in many ways, the series is basically scene after scene of torture porn. Featuring graphic scenes of mutilations, murder, and rape, Crossed could very well break into NC-17 territory, and while a major benefit of Deadpool's success is the fact that studios will take more risks with the kind of comics they adapt, delving into material like this isn't going to help the genre. Could Crossed work as a TV show like The Walking Dead? If a network has the balls to adapt it, absolutely, but a movie could be a disaster! Now, I for one love gory horror movies when they're presented in the right, but Crossed is very in your face and holds nothing back due to it constantly setting out to shock and appal. While Ennis' other series The Boys could work as an R-Rated movie, Crossed is the kind of property which could very well leave audiences so disgusted that they shy away from future hard R adaptations, so leaving it on the shelf for now is for the best.
