8 Reasons Ben Affleck Should Retire From Batman
4. Cut Ties With The Snyder-Verse
If one thing has been made abundantly clear from the way WB and DC have handled the Justice League reshoots issue, its that the studios are actively stepping away from Snyder's initial vision for this franchise.
While Snyder may have given the films their start, with Man of Steel and BvS, his distinctive dour tone left a bad taste in many filmgoers mouths. Then, when the extremely against-the-current Wonder Woman became such a beloved and huge hit for the studios, the message was sent loud and clear. Thus, when Snyder stepped down from directorial duties on Justice League, they opted to reshoot huge portions of the film, insert humor, and do some serious redos on the color grading.
Rather than being a conclusion to Snyder's prior films, Justice League was a distinct attempt to get away from them. Everything coming out of DC ever since has been about making things happier, brighter, and more fun. As a part of this rebranding, the studios will undoubtedly be looking for clear ways to signify to casual audiences that things are different now. Of course, the easiest way to do this is to recast the actors who appeared most consistently in Snyder's films.
But whereas Cavill's Superman essentially got a reboot already in Justice League and Gadot's Wonder Woman was turned into an inspiring cultural icon in her solo film, Affleck's Batman has little going for him. Getting rid of Affleck moves the franchise further away from its roots and vies the DCEU a chance to properly earn back some fans and the general movie-going public.
