5. The Plot Is Pure Superhero Formula

When you take away the hilarious gags and insane action, Deadpool is at its core a rather formulaic superhero movie. Hero gets mistreated by the villain, hero cuts through villain's cronies to get to villain, and they have a final showdown, where of course the hero's love interest becomes a damsel in distress. Considering how imaginative the movie is in other areas, it's a damn shame that the central plot is so thoroughly unimaginative, keen to just recycle the formula many comic book movie fans have long since become fatigued with. Deadpool may be plenty subversive, but apparently not enough to come up with something a little more interesting and unique for its driving force.
