8 Reasons Deadpool Lives Up To The Hype (And 6 It Doesn't)
5. The First Act Is Incredible
The first 35-40 minutes of Deadpool truly are among the most exhilarating first acts of any recent superhero flick: it's loaded with gut-busting humour right out of the gate along with a ton of brutal violence, and does a terrific job establishing both Deadpool and Wade Wilson as characters. Though the rest of the movie sadly doesn't maintain the same level of energy and consistency, it still gives the film plenty of forward-momentum as well as establishing a clear tone and letting audiences know what they're getting themselves into. If too many Marvel films take far too long to get going with their bloated 2-hour-plus run-times, this 108-minute effort certainly doesn't.
