8 Reasons Dr. Strange Is The Most Revolutionary Marvel Movie Ever

4. Doctor Strange Has Marvel's Most Diverse Cast Yet

While Marvel may have stumbled by whitewashing the Ancient One, the venerable studio compensated for its misstep by delivering its most diverse cast to date. Benedict Wong played a big role as Wong, Strange's right-hand man, and Chiwetel Ejiofor had a large supporting role as the brave Mordo.

Also, Strange stacked its cast with female actresses playing important roles that eschewed typical sexist stereotypes. Kaecilius had a bevy of female heavies that knew how to throwdown with magic, which is unprecedented as far as Marvel villains go.

Strange also put more thought into Strange's love interest than other Marvel fare. Rachel McAdam's Christine Palmer was more than just an object of desire for Strange to pine after; she was a brilliant doctor whose medical know-how rivalled Strange's and when Strange mistreated her she had the tenacity to kick him to the curb, proving that she was a self-reliant woman that didn't need a man to make her feel validated.

Strange's willingness to recruit a diverse, multicultural cast while ensuring that women received equal representation on camera will hopefully set a trend for future Marvel movies, one that ushers in a more progressive era for superhero cinema and blockbuster movie-making overall.
