8 Reasons Jurassic World Could Become The Highest Grossing Movie Ever

2. It's Doing What The Avengers Did (Only Better)

The film whose success Jurassic World most resembles (at least thus far) is that of the movie whose spot of best opening weekend it stole, The Avengers. Both are much hyped blockbusters with in-built mainstream appeal and transferred all that excitement directly into cash upon release. Now, The Avengers became the third highest grossing film of all time, so this comparison may at first look like an inditement of World's chances of the big prize, but that misses a big factor; Jurassic World's doing it all better. That's not saying it's a better film than The Avengers (it's not), but in terms of box office potential it's got every hope of going bigger than Marvel's jewel. Crucially, it's a more unique type of excitement; dinosaur movies are hard to come by outside of Asylum-level cheapies on Netflix and the genre is less saturated than superheroes (everyone's been moaning about comic book fatigue since Tobey Maguire was Spider-Man). Then you have the nostalgia factor, which makes the film's target audience much more generation spanning - all The Avengers was calling back to was Iron Man, which came out in 2008. The jaw-dropping figures so far reflect this wide appeal and while it's something of a stretch to suggest that World will best The Avengers to the point it makes over a billion more, it's certain to be the biggest box office smash since Loki tried to destroy Earth.
