8 Reasons Jurassic World Could Become The Highest Grossing Movie Ever

1. The Opening Weekend Is Just The Start

At the time of writing the film's record breaking weekend has only just come to an end. By the time we get to next weekend's presumed continuation of the success Jurassic World could have easily made about $600 million, a figure many assumed would be close to its final total. Of course, that's not even a quarter of the amount World needs to take the crown from Avatar and here's where we get into the undeterminable areas. While an A CinemaScore promises continued success, there's so many variables at play here - maintained hype and rewatchability chief among others - that it's impossible to see how lengthy World's reign as King of the Box Office will be. And that longevity really is where the big big bucks are. As much as it feels like the industry is built off opening weekend receipts (expect Jurassic World 2 to be officially announced within the next week), it's not the be all and end all. To become a major success a film needs to keep bringing in the green pretty much all the way up to its home video release. Avatar made much less than Jurassic World in its opening weekend, but saw next to no drop-off in the month following its release, while recent major hits Frozen and Guardians Of The Galaxy likewise built up to their eventual gross over time, using a big opening weekend as a springboard to bigger things. Nobody thought any of those would tap into the cultural psyche in the way they did and the same is true for Jurassic Park IV. We won't really know for a couple of weeks just how big Jurassic World really is (remember Fifty Shades Of Grey made red rooms full of money before dropping off massively in its second week), so for now the skies really are the limit. Whether those skies are of prehistoric Earth or Pandora we'll just have to wait and see. Do you think Jurassic World can beat Avatar? Or will it wind up falling after this historic opening weekend?
