8 Reasons Suicide Squad Became A Box Office Success (Despite Being Terrible)
5. Fans Will Automatically Take A Movie So Far
Beyond the actual critic debate, fans have an almost automatic impact on a superhero movie these days that guarantees success; they’ll go and see it blind. It takes a movie that looks so bad, has no real interest, isn’t part of an ongoing franchise and receives across-the-board terrible reviews – so, Fant4stic – for this group to not turn out.
This will be why the opening weekend is so big for these panned movies, with everyone flocking out to see it out of a sense of duty.
But while this is a “given”, it’s something that’s turning more aggressive in light of the divide. There’s no longer just a willingness to see the films, but a desperation for it to be good. I don’t want to lean too much on the previous point, but there’s even more onus to go see the new film, and if you don’t hate it, see it again to stick it to the haters. This may not be the deciding factor of Suicide Squad, but it’s definitely played a part.
