8 Reasons Why A Joker & Harley Quinn Movie Is A Terrible Idea

4. Gotham City Sirens (Sans Ayer) Would Be Better

There's no real way to explain David Ayer's return to the DCEU other than by saying WB have a weird way of reacting to criticism. Suicide Squad faced a lot of it, but, despite this, a sequel has been fast-tracked, as has another Ayer-led project based on the Gotham City Sirens.

Now, a Sirens film is a brilliant idea, but Ayer just isn't the right guy for the job. With the exception of Fury and End of Watch, his last few films have been really rather terrible. Sabotage should've been the warning sign that WB had the wrong director, but, that aside, it's clear that the studio do - on some level at least - possess a basic understanding of what is and isn't a good idea. In the right hands Suicide Squad could've been a critical as well as a commercial hit, and so could the Sirens, given the right treatment.

Margot Robbie is a great Harley, but she's been let down by the material sent her way so far. Given a good script and the right direction, she could easily lead a Sirens film with Poison Ivy and Catwoman as her co-stars.

Bonus points if Joss Whedon isn't the go-to guy here, too.
