8 Reasons Why Indiana Jones 5 Is (Probably) A Brilliant Idea

2. It's Not A Rush Job

"A fifth Indiana Jones? Where did that come from?" asked the internet. Erm... it's actually been on the cards for a long time. The potential was there even before Disney brought Lucasfilm, and once the ink was dry on that deal a sequel went from an "if" to a "when".

Since then, there's been rumours (like the recasting one) and constant linking of Steven Spielberg to the project, with Kathleen Kennedy stating several that it was in definite pre-production. So yeah, if you thought for a second that an Indiana Jones 5 wouldn't happen, or were surprised by this turn of events, then you just don't get how Hollywood works.

Although it does look things aren't as desperately money-grabbing as they usually are in Tinseltown; when the film hits in 2020, it will have been in some form of active development for at least five years, possibly as much as seven or eight. That's not a rush job by any measure.

As with new Star Wars or Pixar's raft of upcoming sequels, there's a corporate mandate to produce an Indiana Jones 5, of course, but this long development time shows that creatives are being given the opportunity to flesh things out and ensure that the finished product doesn't just make money off the name before sinking into obscurity.
